AgileHand Newsletter n°2

The AGILEHAND project has reached one-third of its journey. The project is on schedule and all nine deliverables that were to be submitted by month 12 (Dec 2023) were actually submitted. Moreover, six (6) milestones were achieved in these 12 months of AGILEHAND duration, as it was scheduled in the DoA.

In this newsletter we will focus on three recent events related to the AGILEHAND project. The first of these events is the 3rd Plenary meeting & PRODUMAR visit. This Plenary meeting was held at the Produmar company. In-person plenary meetings are always an important moment to take stock and find solutions together to problems that arise during the execution of activities. In addition, the visit to the company's production facilities was a useful opportunity to understand the procedures by which the company works.

The second item in this newsletter regards the collaborations that are being activated with Sister Projects. In order to create synergies among projects that are similar to each other, and that have won the same HE call, workshops have been planned to meet other partners and exchange ideas.

Finally, the last event concerns the I-ESA2024 international conference and workshop. The AGILEHAND project will have a special session within this event to present the solutions being developed and to activate dissemination and exploitation activities.

Plenary meeting & PRODUMAR visit

The third plenary meeting of the AgileHand project took place in Portugal from November 20 to 23, 2023. We were warmly welcomed by our partner Produmar in the beautiful city of Vila da Conde.

This event was the opportunity for us to come together and visit the various production lines within this family-owned company. It allowed us to improve our understanding of the challenges faced by the fish industry, with a particular focus on the hurdles related to sorting, calibration, handling, and packaging of different fish species.

It is in this context that the AgileHand project gains its true meaning. Its objective is to offer technical solutions and innovative suites to overcome these obstacles. We had updated presentations of our different technical partners about the progress in building these suites and their components.

Sister Projects

AgileHand is part of a projects cluster, which brings together four European projects that are funded from the same call from the European Commission. The aim is to collaborate and contribute jointly to the dissemination of the four project activities.

Among these four European projects, we find SMARTHANDLE, which focuses on improving manual and automated production lines to "produce more and diversify with less." The goal is to address significant gaps such as product variabilities, the lack of high-level autonomous reasoning, precise and adaptable control, as well as holistic and efficient planning systems.

The European project MASTERLY is also part of this cluster, striving to address challenges associated with customization in the production chain. Its objective is to develop flexible robotic solutions capable of overcoming these limitations.

The final project within Sister Projects is HARTU. Its aim is to assist European manufacturing companies in transitioning to Industry 5.0, also known as Collaborative Industry, by simplifying interaction between humans, robots, and AI systems on their production lines.

I-ESA Conference 2024

This year, the 12th edition of the International Conference on Interoperability of Enterprise Systems and Applications will take place on the idyllic island of Crete, Greece from April 10th to 12th. In addition to the main scientific tracks dealing with different aspects of interoperability 11 workshops and a doctoral symposium will be organized.

The AGILEHAND project will lead a workshop on Smart grading, handling, and packaging solutions for soft and deformable products in agile and reconfigurable lines.
