AgileHand Newsletter n°1

In January 2023, the AGILEHAND project was successfully launched with the intention of developing advanced technologies for grading, handling and packaging autonomously soft and deformable products, as a strategic instrument to improve flexibility, agility and reconfigurability of production and logistic systems of the European manufacturing companies. This ambitious R&D initiative is granted with 6 million euros by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe framework programme, and 22 partners from 7 European countries are involved in it, among them some prestigious Universities from Spain, Finland, Portugal, and Italy, as well as several industrial partners and research centers. Two Japanese partners (Tokyo University of Technology and Nagasaki University) are also involved as Associated Partners.  As project coordinator, I am very honored to lead such a valuable group of researchers toward this ambitious goal. The AGILEHAND project aims at developing innovative solutions for three key aspects of a workpiece handling system: the "grading" aspect, i.e. knowledge of the workpiece's characteristics and condition, the “handling” aspect of soft and deformable products during the Sorting, Handling and Packaging stages and the aspects of “agility”, “flexibility” and “reconfigurability” in production lines.

Plenary meeting & MULTISCAN visit

On July 12 and 13 will take place the plenary meeting of the AgileHand project. This will be an opportunity to bring together the partners of the project. They will discuss the various progress of the project and to be able to present the first results.

MULTISCAN will also welcome the AgileHand Project consortium to our facilities. During the visit they will take the opportunity to show some of their fruit sorting equipment as well as meat and fish inspection equipment. Technical aspects and how to take advantage of the synergies of their technologies to develop differentiating solutions will be discussed. This meeting is part of the regular plenary sessions of the companies belonging to the AgileHand consortium.

GA Week INTEROP-VLAB

June 27 and 28 was the general assembly week of INTEROP-VLAB. This was an opportunity to bring together different european institutions and partners of Interop-Vlab in order to discuss the various projects in progress.

AgileHand was strongly represented by presentations from UPM and the SANTORSOLA pilot who respectively explained the objectives of the project as well as the first feedbacks.

Digital Manufacturing industrial Summit

AgileHand Project was involved in this european networking initiative with many actors of this field. It was the opportunity to present the current questions, challenges and solutions from different european projects.
