The AGILEHAND project is reaching its conclusion, and we are now able to summarise its key results and achievements.

The AGILEHAND project developed advanced technologies for the autonomous grading, handling, and packaging of soft and deformable products. In particular, AGILEHAND introduced self-calibrating sensing solutions that create a mesh of integrated and overlapping sensors, improving production-line traceability, agility, and reconfigurability. These innovations provide cost-effective, accurate, and fast solutions for the precise grading of delicate and perishable products.

Moreover, AGILEHAND addressed the challenges of robotic manipulation in environments where products are diverse, deformable, and fragile, supporting more flexible and human-centric production systems.

Finally, AGILEHAND developed a comprehensive set of solutions for agile production line reconfiguration in mixed-model production systems. These AI-based solutions enable companies to monitor and synchronise production and logistics flows in real time, even in the presence of product variability and changing market demands, ensuring high responsiveness and efficient use of resources.

The project successfully delivered all planned deliverables: eleven (11) deliverables were submitted during Period 1 (January 2023 – June 2024), and 16 deliverables during Period 2 (July 2024 – December 2025), in accordance with the Description of Action (DoA). In addition, 10 milestones were achieved in Period 1 and 3 in Period 2, as scheduled.

These results were made possible thanks to the dedication and collaboration of all 22 project partners. It has been a complex journey, but also one rich in scientific achievements and human collaboration.

On November 28, HARTU, MASTERLY, AGILEHAND, and SMARTHANDLE successfully hosted the joint webinar “Translating research into practice: turning real industrial needs into smart, flexible, and human-centred solutions.”

The event brought together experts and innovators from across Europe to demonstrate how advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centred design are transforming manufacturing. Through concrete use cases from each project, participants discovered how research is being translated into practical solutions that address real industrial challenges and support the transition toward more flexible, sustainable, and resilient production systems.

The webinar attracted strong interest and engagement, confirming the importance of collaboration between research and industry to accelerate innovation uptake.

As the AGILEHAND project reaches its final phase, we are pleased to launch a series of online courses designed to share its key technological results and support skills development in smart manufacturing.

Two courses are already available:

Technical Suites
This course presents the AGILEHAND technological solutions, including the Smart Sensing, Self-Adaptive Handling, and Agile Reconfiguration suites. It also introduces the AGILEHAND Reference Architecture and explains how these technologies enable autonomous, flexible, and efficient handling and processing of soft and deformable products.

Standardisation
This course highlights the importance of interoperability and industrial standards to ensure seamless integration, scalability, and long-term adoption of AGILEHAND solutions in real manufacturing environments.

A third course, Workers’ Skills Development, will soon be available. It focuses on supporting operators and technicians in adapting to AI-driven and automated production systems, promoting a human-centric approach aligned with Industry 5.0.

These courses contribute to AGILEHAND’s mission to facilitate the adoption of innovative, flexible, and sustainable manufacturing technologies.

The AGILEHAND consortium will have on February 12th and 13th for its final review meeting, kindly hosted by Sant’Orsola at their production facility in Italy.

This important milestone will provide the opportunity to present the project’s achievements and demonstrate the innovative solutions developed throughout the project. By hosting the meeting directly within Sant’Orsola’s industrial environment, partners and reviewers will be able to observe firsthand how AGILEHAND technologies have been integrated into real production processes.

The visit will showcase the deployment of smart sensing, adaptive handling, and intelligent reconfiguration solutions designed to improve the grading, handling, and packaging of delicate products. Seeing these technologies operating in a real factory context highlights the project’s impact and its contribution to advancing flexible, autonomous, and human-centric manufacturing systems.

This review meeting represents a key moment for the consortium to reflect on the project’s progress and demonstrate the tangible results achieved through close collaboration between research and industry partners.
